Wiki Page: How to configure Raceway IDs in BRCM CONNECT
Product(s): Bentley Raceway and Cable Management Version(s): 10.03.00.25 Environment: N/A Area: Raceway IDs Subarea: N/A Background There are multiple Raceway systems which consist of Cable Ladder, Cable basket, Cable Tray, and Conduit. Each raceway system can be assigned a Raceway ID by defining a macro comprised of different types of attributes. Different attributes of the raceway system include the voltage level (LV, MV, CTRL, IW, COM) , Raceway Type, Position and other such attributes. The Position Attribute depicts the Raceway position in the grid found in the Raceway Router dialog. The position is defined by the column name and row number such as” A1”, “ B1 “. This document explains the steps that should be followed while assigning Raceway ID’s to raceway systems and how the Position Attribute can be added to Raceway IDs. Steps To Follow- 1. Go to Raceway>> Raceway IDs. 2. In the Raceway ID and segments dialog that opens -right click on the blank grey area to choose options through which raceway id can be assigned. For raceway ID assignment you can select single segment and multiple segments according to the requirement. 3.Select Add Multiple Segment (selection) and select the segments of raceway. After selection, the Raceway Ids and segments dialog opens again and the selected raceway segments get populated at the top of the dialog box. 4. Select the ‘Position‘ attribute from the attribute picklist. User can select any attribute from the list of attributes as per requirements. 5. After selecting the position attribute ,click on Insert Attribute so that the raceway position gets added in the raceway macro. Note-$(RW_Number) is the Raceway Macro for the ‘Position’ attribute of the raceway. 6.Click on Insert Id so that the Raceway ID gets updated in the raceway macro. Note - Segment ($,0,n) is the Raceway Macro for Raceway ID. By default it has a start value of 1 and gets incremented by 1 for each new raceway. However the value can be changed as per requirement. 7. After both Position attribute and Raceway ID are inserted, click Apply so that the Name field gets updated with the values of Raceway Number and Raceway ID. 8. To display the assigned Raceway ID in the model, Click on Apply so that the Current Name (Model) field gets updated with the Raceway Number and Raceway ID. 9. Click Ok to display the Raceway ID on the model. Repeat steps 1-9 for Raceway position “B1”. The same steps can be followed for different positions of Raceways. After Position Attribute is added and Raceway IDs are assigned they are displayed on the Raceway. Original Author: Lalitesh Vaidyar Keywords: BRCM CONNECT, RacewayID , Segments($,0,n) , Position, Insert Attribute, Insert Symbol.

What's New Highlights Components Center (Technical Preview) Components Center is a cloud-based digital component library and catalog management service. It allows users to efficiently manage their digital component libraries while providing their designers with approved, proprietary components as well as manufacturer's content via subscriptions. Components Center users can create their own organization catalogs and populate them with content provided by Bentley or upload custom content to share among all their users. Standard Bentley Substation content placement tools now show content from Components Center. The first time a component is inserted it will be downloaded to a local cache folder making it faster to insert the next time you use that component. The following enhancements have been made in this release: The Catalog Manager is now integrated with Components Center and allows you to place components. You now have the option to exclude the Bentley example content that is automatically available when enabling Components Center by enabling the toggle in the System Options> Components Center> Exclude default Bentley content. Families are now downloaded from Components Center when you attempt to place a symbol from the catalog. You have the ability to limit the content you can use from Components Center by selecting the application names you want to load content from in the System Options> Components Center settings. All components uploaded to Components Center can be assigned an application name. You can load content from multiple different applications if you have a need to do so. Content insertion tools respect the Component Center's states as follows: Draft: Do not show component in Catalog Manager Checked: Show in Catalog Manager as download-only (cannot place, load, or open) Approved: Show in Catalog Manager as download-only (cannot place, load, or open) Published: Show in Catalog Manager and allow full use Archived: Do not show component in Catalog Manager For all other placement tools only published content can be seen and placed. Print Manager The Print Manager provides convenient filtering options that allow you to easily select and print the design files that were affected by a particular work order's revisions. It allows you to print design files displaying content based on a theme that you created and applied using the Thematic Manager. Assign Phase Levels to 3D Cables The Insert Cable/Bus Tool now allows you to select a phase level to assign the cable to which makes it convenient to distinguish the cables belonging to each phase for clash detection purposes. This feature now works in concert with the Properties Control "Phase" property. The phase property value you set in the Properties Control will set the default value of the level when drawing the cable, but can be overridden in the Cable/Bus Tool Settings level pull-down. Text Enhancements Apply Text Settings to Multiple Symbols After selecting multiple symbols you can right click and select Text Settings to apply text settings to all selected symbols. The dialog now has a pull-down list that allows you to choose between Device ID, Connection Point Text, and Symbol Text to apply different settings as desired for each of these categories. Text Justifications Now Applied to Multiple Lines of Symbol Text Text alignment can now be applied to multi-line symbol text as a whole so that an attribute can be inserted in the symbol definition and the designer can trust that the text will grow in the desired direction and not interfere with the rest of the symbol. Cable / Wiring Diagram Enhancements Improved Cable Diagram Display Cable Diagram lines now extend to the end of each text string rather than being generated to the same length to the longest text string resulting in a gap between the line and the text on some terminals. New Wiring Diagram Wire Number Attribute You can now add a wire number attribute for each terminal in your wiring diagram terminal strip symbol to control where the wire number for that terminal is displayed. It's useful if you wish to display the wire number in the center of the terminal and then print the from-to connections on either side of it. Usability Enhancements Parts Database Manager Supports Picklists The Parts Database Manager now provides picklists for the Manufacturer and Category fields that are populated with the values currently used in the parts database. Enhanced Schematic Terminal Editing Now editing a terminal ID in a schematic to another strip ID that already exists in the project, will give you the option of updating all related terminals found in the same column or row rather than just changing the one terminal you directly edited. New Snap to Din Rail Toolbar The Snap to Din Rail toolbar button now highlights when the feature is enabled making it fast and easy to know the state of the feature. Enhanced Grid Settings The Project Options > Standards> Default Grid/Snap Settings have been enhanced to allow you to specify rectangular grids in which the X and Y values are different. You can also specify the grid reference and set the grid configuration to either ortho or isometric. New Report Filter Picklists The Installation and Location filter fields in Reports now support picklists that are populated with the values used in the currently active project. Using the picklists avoids typos and ensures you are filtering on the desired values. New Dock Enabled Catalog Manager The Catalog Manager has been converted into a dock panel that enables you to dock the wizard in the drawing interface and collapse it to a tab if so desired. Augmented Engineering Design Considerations New real-time and batch check identifies instances where the family you assign does not match with the device's part number. New Results Limit setting allows you to set how many results are listed at one time which was previously hard coded to 500 results. The Engineering Design Consideration results now identify the zone number of the page that the issue resides in provided that you are using zone numbers in your page format. This allows you to more quickly identify the position of the issue being reported. ProjectWise Managed WorkSpace Enhancements The Catalog Manager's Import / Export Catalog features now allow you to select a source or destination from a ProjectWise repository when using a ProjectWise Managed WorkSpace. The Modify Catalog Paths dialog now allows you to create a new catalog in a ProjectWise repository. Administration Improvements Elevated Security in the Database Update Tool The Database Update Tool for creating new databases or updating the schema of existing ones will now require a "sysadmin" role to execute these operations. This change was to better ensure that only authorized administrators can execute this functionality. Enriched Command Protection You now have independent control over the Project Backup and Restore features to grant or deny access to them separately.

ID Description 390057 The Cable Sizing function executes the change process even though the feature was cancelled. 473423 After creating a detailed cable info section cut the table will reflect the routed cables, but if you remove the routed cables and attempt to update this section cut the table will still list the previously routed cables. 629813 We improved the performance of stretching duct bank concrete. 629820 We improved the performance of the key in “rcmfixductbanknamedgroups.” 660682 The trench Route could not connect properly after deleting a trench tee using the ‘Delete Trench’ button. 660695 The Trench route could not connect properly after moving a trench crossover using the modify trench command. 1036777 When placing equipment from the Equipment Manager, if you changed the insertion point for the equipment it would disappear from the current view and you had to search for the equipment. Now the equipment position should remain within the view. 1038562 The cable list importing process did not allow you to enter an "Underscore" for separating the Panel ID and the terminal connection. 1041017 The tee fittings in the standard BRCM_PLANT_US_COMP example project did not display a bend radius when you viewed the properties on the fittings. 1037932 The Insert Raceway Part feature was not previewing the part at the cursor. 809117 If multiple hatches are defined In the Options CAD Standards> Hatches then no hatch was applied when creating a 2D raceway extraction. 1051380 The Connect function in ductbank Router dialog cannot be used when ductbank is non-orthogonal 865428 While Routing Cable Tray where the Raceway has a Y offset and then Place Part is done for two Custom Vertical Bends the BRCM Software Crashes. 927190 When routing a conduit and placing a Tee with ‘left/right direction’ the conduit that continued on the other side of the Tee was at an angle rather than aligned with the Tee. 965627 The BOQ of Cable Tray filtered the Tray according to the Drawing Reference for the raceway, but the filtering applied to the Tray only and not the accessories like the Tray Cover and Divider. The details for the raceway cover and divider were listed together with no Drawing Reference Filter. 1022338 Annotation scale for the text in section graphics did not work properly. 1032344 Copying Duct Bank copied the Manhole or Equipment along with it and the ID for copied Manhole or Equipment could not be edited. 1034328 An error occurred saving UDAs when you set # PW_DISABLE_INTEGRATION_FROM_DESKTOP=1 in pw.cfg file for ProjectWise integration. 956663 The Weight of cable on drums can exceed the drum's specified Load. 1031130 If a Duct Bank design was split across two separate files the Detail_Envelope_BOQ report would not report the IDs. 1035395 In the Equipment Manager dialog if the user changed the dimensions of an equipment and saved it as a configuration it would be lost after the Equipment Manager was closed and reopened. 923570 Various commands in the Manage ribbon menu were not displaying command prompts and would display useless Tool settings dialog boxes. Wiki Page: How to consider Bend Radius when Routing Cables
Product(s): Bentley Raceway and Cable Management Version(s): 10.03.00.25 Environment: N/A Area: Cable Routing Subarea: N/A Background This article will explain how you can ensure that cable routing considers the bend radius of your cables and raceways when routing the cables Key features: • Specify cable minimum bend radius in the cable types definition. • Cable routing fails if minimum bend radius exceeds the RW'S bend radius. • After visualizing routed cables the calculated lengths will account for the bend. Steps to Accomplish Navigate to Manage on the ribbon and select Options . Go to Cable Data in Options dialog and then Select Cable Types. *Cable lists must be imported before this step. Under Cable Types dialog, select any cable you want to route and assign Minimum Radius. For example, here I selected two cable types 5C12 and 3C2 and assigned different minimum radius values to them. After assigning minimum radius values, click apply and then ok. Now, select Cable Manager from Equipment & Cable. Select Manage and then double click on Collaboration Manager . Select all and then request lock. Select cable type 3C2 with 50 as minimum bend radius. Press right click and open Routing Manager . Now route selected cable type as shown below. Here you can see the cable cannot be routed and in info the reason for it is “cable minimum bend radius is large”. Now repeat Steps 7 & 8 for Cable type 5C12 . This time the cable will get routed successfully. As the minimum bend radius of cable is lesser than the raceway’s bend radius. By visualizing the 3D cable you can easily see the bend and the adjusted length in the properties.

Each raceway system can be assigned a Raceway ID by defining a macro comprised of different types of attributes. Different attributes of the raceway system include the voltage level (LV, MV, CTRL, IW, COM) , Raceway Type, Position and other such attributes. Here in this document we are going to describe the steps that we must follow to assign the raceway ID to a raceway system while routing raceway. Steps To Accomplish- 1. Open the DGN file which contains a raceway routing model. Click on Raceway Router tool in Raceway ribbon. Raceway Routing Tool/Start dialog box will open. 2. Select the raceway system and raceway catalog as per requirement with one horizontal offset. 3. Click on Raceway configuration tab and to see preview of the raceway configuration click Preview . This will show the position/raceway number of raceways in setup grid. (A1. B1) 4. Now select the attribute as required from drop down menu (for example selecting Position attribute). Click Insert Attribute. The i nserted attribute will be shown in the ID settings box. Here we have selected the Position attribute which indicates the position of the raceway in the setup grid. 5. We can select serial as well by clicking Insert Serial. This will give a number to each segment routed. We can also change the format of the Serial ID by editing it in the ID Settings box, but never change the formula ($,0,n). In the dialog below the Attribute selection we can see the macro of the serial number where we can edit the start value and increment value. (Here we have selected the start value 1 and increment value 1, hence software will start from Segment 1 and increment the value by one for each segment of that raceway.) 6. If the ID setting inserted is commonly used, then this can be saved by giving it a name and clicking Save. 7. Now select the B1 raceway and select the previously saved ID setting. Once you have specified the desired ID settings, add required preferences and click Route . 8. A sample result of raceway ID is shown below. Here A1 and B1 represent the Position Attribute for the raceway and Segment 1 , Segment 2 , …. represent the serial number for each raceway segment. Original Author: Vikrant Kale

Forum Post: Device Family List Help
I am having some confusion with my Device Famiy List. Typically I will insert device by name, search and enter my part number and select the appropriate family. Recently I have made some modifications to my families that just don't seem to take. The family edits work but not the childs (i.e connection points). I keep getting a Device Family list that is not reflective of my families folder in my current catalog. There are items in this list that have been deleted a long time ago. Why do they keep appearing and is it possible to refresh the list? promis-e V8i (SELECTseries7)-Version 08.11.12.18

Hello Lalitesh. Thank you. I did this but it does not refresh my Device Family list. It seems to be getting this list from somewhere other than my Families folder in my current catalog. When I look at the files in my Families folder they don't match this list.

Hi Neil, You can try renaming the per user app data folder and check if that helps with your concern. You can follow the steps provided in the below link. https://communities.bentley.com/products/electrical___instrumentation/w/electrical_and_instrumentation__wiki/5363/application-data-per-user-configuration---promis-e Hope this was helpful.

Forum Post: RE: Device Family List Help
Hello, I renamed the folder as per the link. I see that Promis-e created a new folder when it started. I started the program, did a catalog rebuild, did a Families refresh but it still comes up with the family list that is not current. Below is my current family list from my catalog manager. There are items that have been deleted that keep appearing in my Device Family list when I am placing a symbol. Thanks, Neil
